The Facts
- Anxiety is not dangerous: Anxiety is undoubtedly uncomfortable and if you also have panic attacks it may be the most frightening experience that you have had… but… it will not give you a heart attack or stroke or make you stop breathing, go crazy or make you lose control.
- You are still in control: Many people feel that they are “going crazy” when they begin to experience anxiety and panic. You can control your anxiety. It is not always easy but you can control it.
- You will not go crazy: You may be feeling as though you want to escape or that you have lost control of you body… but… anxiety will not make you crazy.
- Most panic attacks do not have to happen: You can avoid panic attacks if you stop anticipating and exaggerating the fear. Stay in the present and believe in your own ability to cope.
- Panic will pass: Most panic attacks last less than a couple of minutes. In the midst of one it can feel like a lifetime but with some deep slow breathing and some concentration on your thoughts, the panic can not last long.
